Garden Office FAQs

Garden office sheds are self-contained buildings specifically used for working from home.

Since COVID-19, more people than ever have transitioned to a blended working style, spending some days in the office and more time at home. While some may prefer working from their property, others could find the work-life balance difficult.

That’s why countless UK homeowners have invested in a garden office shed! These are structures detached from the home that offer a private space for work or business-related activities.

At Atlas Sheds, our garden offices are constructed using the highest-quality timber (sourced from sustainable forests). Our premium building materials can be fully insulated, so your new office feels just as warm and comfortable as your home.

Garden office pods are indeed suitable for home working. They're becoming increasingly popular investments due to their practicality, style, and the benefits they offer remote workers.

A common complaint of remote workers is that they find it difficult to focus. Whether that’s because of family members or domestic distractions, having a dedicated garden office can increase your productivity.

You get all the benefits of working from home (including being close to your house and its facilities) without the potential drawbacks. Plus, our offices are large enough to customise with desks, chairs or shelves: you can make the space uniquely yours.

Most garden offices fall under ‘permitted development rights’ and, as such, do not require planning permission. However, this provided they meet certain criteria, such as:

  • You live in a house and not a maisonette or flat
  • You do not live in a listed building
  • You do not live on a World Heritage site, in an area of outstanding national beauty (AONB), a national park or the broads
  • If your garden office shed (or outbuilding) will be more than 20 metres from one of your house’s exterior walls, the total area of your shed cannot exceed 10 metres.

There are several ways to get wifi in a garden office:

  • Use a powerline adapter which uses the electrical wiring of your home to extend your network to the garden office
  • Install a Wi-Fi range extender which boosts the signal from your main router to the garden shed
  • Lay an Ethernet cable underground or hidden from the elements can provide a secure, reliable connection
  • Set up a wireless router inside the office to turn an Ethernet connection into a wireless network
